“Written on the body is a secret code only visible in certain lights, the accumulations of a lifetime gather there.” Jeanette Winterson
While watching a holiday news segment on different wines to enjoy over the season, the single name on a bottle of red wine caught my eye, I immediately knew it would become the title of this post! Wow, I thought, what a great name for a bottle of wine and like wine’s cousin, champagne, this one word began to create bubbles of images in my mind. I began to think about all the narratives that we carry with us, stories that make up our pasts, our present and always ongoing story and the stories yet to come. In fact all three types of narrative states can be unfolding at once! Even though this is possible, it makes me wonder about the clutter of it all, as heroes of our own narratives, I believe we are meant to work on and create that one great story that represents who we truly are! And with a new year ahead of us, instead of making resolutions, why not work on streamlining that narrative and become the hero of your own unique story?
The possibilities are endless; there are so many choices and directions one can take, it could be an inward journey (beginning that journal or meditation practice), an outward journey (travelling to that city or country that you’ve been wanting to explore) or taking your stand in the present place you find yourself, decluttering all those arcs so your new story can unfold.
My travel journals and Huguette’s book contain many of my narratives and blogging gives me a chance to share them with you, they are resting in a physical place and not floating in my mind. Writing itself can be an act of decluttering, helping the hero in all of us find our way to reveal that true narrative so we can share our story with the world.

Seasonal touches are beginning to appear, Cafe San Angel is decorated with white lights, a holiday wreath and swags of material in gold and burgundy with gold angel figurines. Andale’s, a few doors down has decorated all their lamps with colourful paper lanterns. Walking down Olas Altas at night and seeing them, at ground level, on the 2nd & 3rd levels as well as near the rooftop is very magical. These paper lanterns remind me of lanterns one might find in any Chinatown and I love it that I’m seeing them here so far away in Mexico.
I’m really enjoying my Mexico life, all the contrasts, the warm sunshine and all the people (locals and tourists alike) going about their daily lives. Each unique person with a story to tell.
This will be my last post for this year, as the days of 2015 unwind, I find myself waiting for the New Year in the same way we might wait for the seventh wave, hoping that this wave will be the biggest and best we have seen so far! Until next time…I’m wishing you all the very best for now and in the New Year!
A great idea decluttering, of the Now and the New Year. The physical, the mental, and the emotional, all clear and ready for new beginnings, cherishing old ones, and blessing the unknown.
A great wine would help.
Love Mom.
