The dream of living by the sea
near a wild forest and ancient mountain range,
rose unbidden, colouring the day to day
of my long ago high school world.
Time has passed unbound,
leaving its inevitable brushstrokes
and bruised shadows behind,
it’s here amid the trifecta of water, wood and earth
that I make my stand –
Resisting the lure of the lemming mind
at every red light I come across,
shaking off the eagle-eyed glance of the developer
as they sharpen their hungry tooth.
With shredded grace barely covering me
I awake each day to stake my claim,
that dream of long ago, a tainted paradise.
Oh what a great poem and so true. I love how you phrase ” shaking off the eagle-eyed glance of the developer as they SHARPEN THEIR HUNGRY TOOTH” . So so well said. Unfortunately people voted again for the wrong person …the very same one who promote all this, feeding the developers huge money appetite. Grrr . I am angry.

We live in interesting times as the saying goes, sometimes ‘cultivating the opposite’ is the only protest left to us! Thank you (always!) for leaving such lovely comments…I’m so glad this poem touched you.

You are very wise! That is exactly what I do too. Living on the left. …big hug. Love the photo. Our park and bay help us survive in this material chaos. Thanks again Kim for your notes. Love them.

Love this piece woven by the many incidents of your past and the present. A tainted paradise indeed.
To live amongst the greenery and in the height of childhood fantasies and freedom, that is an inexplicable beauty of life.
Take care, Kim, and enjoy all the becomes you and surrounds you, for in these times, we must take nothing for granted.

Yes the mornings are the best part of the day as we are now enjoying a summer break. Nothing like a leisurely morning with no chores and duties to attend to.
