Infinity

A tired stretch of asphalt, outside of time

finds itself peppered with glossy machines,

sleek, moving fast,

their owner’s hearts turned to stone.

The needle strewn forest path, outside of time

bears witness to the solitary soul

seeking solace and pure oxygen

as the embers of a lost world fall all around.

An ancient wave cleaved by fin and tail, outside of time

blesses the ion shore,

where a young woman clad in dark denim

determinedly walks deeper into frigid waters,

as we safe on land start the long chain of phone calls,

saving one life and in turn, our own.

The blue sky above eternally watches over a billion worlds,

worlds that never stop spinning and are forever changing,

waiting patiently for us to return home, outside of time.

A billion worlds, every one unique – this colourful sculpture (made up of broken ceramic and other small items) is on display at the Museum of Anthropology located on the grounds of the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, B.C.).

Your choice of words create such picturesque images, that captures a moment in time that you’re so lucky to catch a glimpse of. I liked the way you added “outside of time” on certain sentences. I went back to re-read your poem and for fun strung those four sentences together. Even those painted a visually different picture in my head. Thanks for sharing Kimberlee!

Oh Kim, you have such deepness in you. You describe so well what you feel. Your words are exquisite. I wish I could write like you. I do feel that I live ” outside of time ” outside of reality. Those words made me really think. Thank you dear friend for another lovely note. So lucky to have you as a neighbour..😘❤️

    • I think living “outside of time” will be the equalizer for all of us, I love it when I’m in the flow and time falls away, it’s a delicious feeling! Thank you (always!) for your unwavering support, it means a lot!!

Yes, floating outside of time, outside of reality is such a great sensation…feeling alive, dreaming. Now trying more to be realistic. Not sure that I like this. Ha ha ha. It is not me.

    • This poem was sparked by a walk down Robson St., I noticed a whole row of high-end cars and thought about how different the owner’s worlds are from mine! I’m glad you love this…XO

Kim, I especially liked this these lines, “The blue sky above eternally watches over a billion worlds,
worlds that never stop spinning and are forever changing,” This feels comforting to me.
