There are paper lanterns strung across
the front of an old brick building,
their delicate watercolour painted facades
hiding moonstruck light,
if I hadn’t looked up,
I would have missed the mystery floating there.
It’s easy to see the variegated autumn splendour
still clinging to moss covered limbs,
lying in heaps upon the grass and choking roadways –
not so, those subtle nuances,
a flash of dark wing, glistening berry and
tendril of wood smoke,
signposts for those who walk between worlds.
Lovely poem, awakens the eye to stop and just be. Gather the moment of color and light, soak in the beauty of is.

Thank you, Mom! As the days become shorter and winter waits restlessly in the wings, these fleeting, light-filled days are indeed meant to be gathered…I love this line, “Gather the moment of colour and light, soak in the beauty of is.”!

I love that last line about walking between worlds. Such an interesting concept, yet I think most of us do exactly that on a frequent basis without ever realizing it…

I loved this Kimberlee. Your descriptive and colorful words are always a delight to read. And I love the fact that a lot of your poems are inspired by nature. You always seem to capture the essence of that magical experience.

I’m so lucky to be surrounded by nature but even the city has its own magic to uncover if I take the time to look – thank you (always!) for taking the time to read my work & comment, it never fails to bring me joy!

Oh Kim, lové that phrase ( lying in heaps upon the grass and choking roadways.) also ( for those who walk between worlds ). I love it all. Nature hugs us with it’s sublimical colors . It lays down a carpet of golden and red leaves to soften our path. Looking up, looking down, I am in extasy this fall. There is poetry coming down from every tree. Thanks again dearest Kim. 🍂❤️🍁

Oh Kimberlee, a beautiful poem and photo! I really appreciate the many dimensions of your writing, including what folks wrote above (and love that your mom posted ❤ ). I think the thing that touches me the most is how you need to pay attention to get the beauty / meaning …. otherwise you can easily miss it. I relate to that. BLESS YOU, Kimberlee. Have a beautiful week. Debbie
